A ground-breaking six year contract with one of Britain’s leading national transport utilities. The programme is the culmination of an 18-month process which examined in minute detail the best possible way to structure the insurance cover.
As a regulated utility, the client had particular and strictly-monitored funding parameters. These led to the identification of an overall strategy of reducing volatility and minimising cost. The client worked with their broker to develop their own pricing model, which was then refined by QBE on the basis of the most efficient and effective use of the client’s capital.

Their chairs were desirable, but from an insurance perspective this well-known furniture company’s manufacturing processes weren’t. Dangerous tools, and concerns about product liability and product recall, were enough to make other insurers sit uncomfortably. But by bringing our healthy appetite for risk to the table, together with a few suggested security tweaks, we were delighted to be able to underwrite the policy.
This food supplier was having trouble insuring its drivers. Frozen shoulders were to blame – and we’re not talking cuts of lamb. After a little detective work, we found that the truck drivers weren’t sitting properly at the wheel. So we simply taught them how, and underwrote the policy.

There’s nothing to touch their engines in the air. Unfortunately, no insurer would touch the machines that make them on the ground. That’s because during construction each turbine has to be left to set for six months. So the slightest fault could set things back a long way and be very costly indeed. However, through a rigorous analysis of the production process, we were able to minimise the chances of disruption and so underwrite the policy.
A well-known carrier was experiencing a high level of back complaints amongst their baggage handlers. When they called in our team, we discovered that over 60% of muscular skeletal disorders were the result of carrying heavy items. So we engaged a professional weightlifter to train staff in correct lifting technique. As a result back injuries dropped by a third.
